CECAFA Women’s Senior Championship and Upcoming Events in 2025

The CECAFA Women’s Senior Championship is scheduled for June 12-22, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. According to Yusuf Mossi, CECAFA’s Competitions Director, the tournament is strategically timed to precede the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) next month.

“This event will provide valuable preparation for Tanzania, our WAFCON representative, while also helping other teams gear up for the WAFCON 2026 qualifiers starting in October,” Mossi explained.

Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, and South Sudan have already confirmed their participation, with additional teams expected to join in the coming days.

Following the Women’s Senior Championship, the first-ever CECAFA Beach Soccer Championship will be held from July 7-12 in Mombasa, Kenya.

CECAFA’s 2025 calendar also includes the CAF Women’s Club Champions League CECAFA qualifiers in Tanzania, the Dar Port Kagame Cup in Tanzania, the AFCON U-17 CECAFA qualifiers in Ethiopia, and the CAF African Schools Football Championship CECAFA qualifiers. However, the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup and the CECAFA U-20 Women’s Championship will not take place this year.

To date, Tanzania (the host nation), Uganda, Burundi, and South Sudan have confirmed their participation, with additional teams expected to join soon.

Following the women’s championship, CECAFA will launch its inaugural Beach Soccer Championship from July 7 to 12 in Mombasa, Kenya.
